ein Dienstprogramm zur Modifizierung vorhandener Schriften (Font) oder zur Erstellung und Speicherung neuer Schriften. Mit einfachen Editoren, die zum Teil als Shareware erhältlich sind (z. B. das Programm Softy), lassen sich oft nur Bitmap-Schriften, allenfalls noch TrueType-Fonts bearbeiten, und die Editiermöglichkeiten sind sehr eingeschränkt. Um professionelle Ergebnisse zu erzielen, muss man zu entsprechenden (und teuren) Werkzeugen wie beispielsweise FontLab greifen. Damit können auf einfache Weise TrueType- und PostScript-Fonts kreiert oder bearbeitet, Eigenschaften wie das Kerning (Unterschneidung) eingestellt, verschiedene Schriftschnitte (wie kursiv und fett) erzeugt, alle Zeichen nach dem Unicode-Standard (Unicode) kodiert werden und vieles andere mehr.
